New to Volvos here. Looking at used V60 sedans. From examining the Monroney window stickers of various S60s offered for sale online, I see that Polestar optimization is usually seen as an added $1300 option at the end of the price list. My understanding is that it is just a software upgrade done at the dealer, badging added on rear right panel.
But what about the Polestar Engineered version? For 2017, I THINK that this means a lowered and different suspension, 19" wheels, plus the software programming upgrade. I saw one S60, 2017, that had Polestar blue badges on each wheel, AND on the door plates AND the shift lever. Is this the Engineered version? I ran the VIN through the decoder hereabouts, and I didn't see anything about Polestar.
Well, anyone can buy some Polestar badges, I would assume. How do you know from the VIN if a S60 is Polestar Engineered? Should this be on the Monroney sticker somewhere? Sorry if this is an obvious one, but I know the badging changes a bit year to year. I would assume that the different shift lever badging would be something you couldn't add later, DIY...
TIA for any advice you can offer! Not as easy buying online as it use to be, I think...
If it came from the factory with polestar upgrade, you will see it as you have witnessed. All over the car, on the shifter, etc. It should be on the sticker then too. I actually just got my 2018 upgraded with the polestar tune and you are correct in saying that it just gives you the rear end badge.
here is a local dealership link and the sticker has polestar on it. Gotta click the car fax button and get the window sticker from there.

But what about the Polestar Engineered version?
How do you know from the VIN if a S60 is Polestar Engineered? [/QUOTE]
The "Polestar" cars - in addition to suspension, wheels, performance software, interior bits and a bunch of emblems - Had fancy brakes - big painted front calipers. I doubt anyone would source used Polestar calipers to "make " a fake polestar car. But I have seen a polestar car for sale - with normal calipers and aftermarket wheels - where someone swapped out the fancy parts - probably to sell.
Usually the Polestar cars were a bright blue - and sold in just a few other colors, black, white and silver.
The polestar software $1300 option - was installed either when built or at the dealer on the "normal" cars. The polestar software on the "Polestar engineered" cars was installed at the factory and those engines had more HP (20 or so) and torque than your standard volvo with just the software installed. (either at the factory when built or after purchase at the dealer)
Thanks - I am looking at a S60 Polestar Engineered car right now (2017 S60 R-Design Platinum), and it does indeed have all of those Polestar badges. The Monroney sticker also shows:
Polestar Exhaust Kit* 1,990.00
Polestar* 1,290.00
Polestar Styling Trim* 2,295.00
Polestar 21" Wheel Kit* 3,735.00
Spare under Load Floor* 590.00
Summer Tires Destination Charge 995.00
Total Suggested Retail Price: $ 59,780.00
So, no ambiguity there at all. But, boy, those 21" wheels require pretty expensive rubber when the time comes to replace them.
Don't think that's a " Polestar". It's a s60 r design platinum trim with a bunch of polestar add-ons. Does it have the front calipers and rotors as shown below?
Here's a review of a "Polestar" car. Or google 2017 s60 Polestar and you will be presented with a bunch of blue car pictures. (and writeups). Note the pricing difference between s60r and Polestar trim -
Thanks - this sure is getting confusing! The photos I've seen of the vehicle in question have the Polestar door sill badging, the shifter badging, the rear right panel badging, and a Polestar badge on each 21" wheel - but no engraved rotors. But the Performance section shows S60 R-Design Platinum specs: 2.0L Super & Turbo-Charged, Direct Inject Engine 302 HP @ 5700 RPM and 295 lb-ft Torque @ 2100 RPM. As you've noted, the full-on Polestar model has 362hp. But the S60 I'm looking at also has the $1300 Polestar tuning package, so is that basically achieving the same spec? The sticker shows this pricing:
R-Design Platium: $ 47,400.00
Blind Spot Information System Package 925.00 Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) Front and Rear Park Assist
Metallic Paint 560.00
Polestar Exhaust Kit* 1,990.00
Polestar* 1,290.00
Polestar Styling Trim* 2,295.00
Polestar 21" Wheel Kit* 3,735.00
Spare under Load Floor* 590.00
Summer Tires Destination Charge 995.00
Total Suggested Retail Price: $ 59,780.00 - as opposed to Polestar V60 list price of $60,995
So, are the add-ons essentially providing most of the Polestar features? The HP spec is before the Polestar tuning option is added. I'm going to guess that the previous owner wanted a Polestar, none were available, so just added all of the Polestar features to end up with basically the same car. I have noticed that "genuine" Polestar S60s have slightly different external trim, and the Sport Chassis, which I would assume improve overall handling. I have yet to see any S60 with Sport Chassis as an added Option, FWIW. I am trying to decide if a R-Design S60 (2017) with all of the aforementioned Polestar Options, 51K miles, southern US car, is the right choice for me. There aren't all that many genuine Polestar S60s out there, AFAICS.

Reason: more info
Hello, this is definitely not the Polestar from factory. There is much more than all of the add-on you mentioned in the Polestar engineering version like 6 piston break, Ohlin dampers (front/back) carbon fiber bars and i side trim also as polestar catback version on top of midification of AWD to send power more on back at S drive, intercooler upgrade… there is more ☺️
I have the 3.0 t6 version of 350hp which is similar as late version except they downsized the engine with 4cyl and supercharged turbo for the last ones.
