Default possible buy of 2004 s60 - which one to get?

hi, we are thinking of maybe getting a s60 and i found a few interesting ones from 2004, they are all 2.4 models. is this a good model to get or should we look for a 2.5t regarding fuel economy, reliability etc.
thanks

Alot depends on what you are looking for in the car higher performance with the turbo vs. a little less performance with the NA engine but probably a little less in terms of costs of upkeep, insurance, etc. My 02 S60 is NA and it does fine for me, but I'm not really one to "hot rod" a car.

neiter am i - i'd rather have it more comfy, quiet, economic and if possible with less costs involved. the ones i found are (all 2.4 models) at pasadena car sales and are priced really well (compared to other sites i looked at). i just need to make time to go down there and take a look at them in person.
thanks for your reply.

i saw a very nice one yesterday from a non-volvo dealer. it has 39k on it, is a 2004 2,4 and almost immaculate, sells for 12990. it was owned by a major rental company (i bought an ex rental car once and was very satisfied with it, because it was always serviced and well taken care of, despite the different users).
and i saw an ad of another one from a private seller (haven't seen it live yet), looking really good too from the pictures, has been serviced all its life by a volvo dealer, is a 2004 2,4 with 68k - and is still under warranty until 100k/5 years. it sells for 12500.
apart from he optical condition, which one do you guys think would be the better choice?
thanks

Even though you've had good experiences with off rental I would probably still go with the other one. The mileage is not that much more than the rental and it is still under warranty.

Where are you finding 03 and 04 S60's in the $12K range? In Ohio they are at $14k+ and $15k+

in california, here: http://aluxauto.com/default.aspx
and here: www.pasadenacarsales.com

but the ones at the pasadena place were not in the best condition, the red one at aluxauto is in very good condition, though. this place ships statewide and internationally. if you are interested, ask for marco.

show me a S60 03, being retailed for 15K and I would run. You are paying way too much. Just because they are asking for it, doesn't mean they are going to get it.

03's are in the 11 to 12 range.
04's are in the 13 to 14 range and I might be high on that as well.
If you want a good gage of what cars actually sell for go on Ebay, and see what people ask and what they bid on actual cars.

I have a number of guys I know through the internet that sell Volvos exclusively, and they go to dealer auctions and can get anyone any model and year and miles and color they want. One in Michigan and one in Pennsylvania.

hi again, thanks for all your answers. we will be buying a vehicle within the next 2 weeks - but i think i confused myself even more now, because i need/want/have to decide between a s60 and a s80. both are 2004, the s60 has 39k miles on it with about 5 month of warranty left, the s 80 has 32k miles with about 8 month of warranty left. both are in very good condition, s60 was owned by a rental company, s80 was a corporate lease. the s 60 has the 2,4 non turbo engine with 168 hp, the s80 the 2,5t with 208 hp. the options on both cars are pretty much the same and in the end the price should be about $800 more for the s80.
what we are looking for in a car are a quiet and comfortable ride with decent fuel economy, don't care that much about sporty and speed. the extra space in the s80 would be nice, but not necessary.
i hope i can drive both cars on saturday and compare them one on one. i know that we have to decide for ourselves, but what would be your thoughts?
thanks

hi again, we finally bought a 2005 s60 t5 with 52k miles and a volvo 100k mile/6 year warranty. during the warranty, do i have to take it to a volvo dealer for the regular services or can an independent volvo repair shop do it too?
thanks
