Default Premature wheel bearing failure?

I have seen complaints about the XC90 wheel bearings failing early, but I am wondering ifanyone has experienced early failure on theirS60? We replaced 1 rear @ 50K (2006 model), just out of warrantyand are now being told that we need to do another rear and a front @ 95K, along with rotors and an e-brake system. We have never had to replace wheel bearings this early before on other care makesand are a little shocked that we have had 3 go before 100K. Is this a case for challenging the repair costs, or is this normal wearon a Volvo?

Welcome.

That doesn't sound like "normal". Where did you get the parts from, who made the parts you got (OEM or Aftermarket)and who did the install?
Sounds like the suspension needs to be inspected.

Thanks for the reply. All of this has been/will be done by the Volvo dealer here in NY. I am assuming that the first bearing that was replaced @ 50K, was OEM. We are picking the car up today and I will be questioning the techs about bearing life expectancy (we live in a heavy snow area and this is the AWD version) and would appreciate input from other Volvo owners. My husband seems to think that this is normal wear and tear, but I can't believe that they were designed to last less than 100K. Oh..and the service manager offered to give us 10% off the $1500 bill since it is such an expensive repair..do you think that this sounds legit?

Oh...k. The AWD model might wear more quickly and since you said you drive in heavy snow, that will also speed up the wear process. but still three bearings under 100000 miles.

The mileage and problem are not too excessive but the price you are paying for the repairs are. The partscosts are fairly reasonable. They are sold as a complete hub assembly not a bearing that needs to be pressed in. The install should not take more than an hour or two each. Take a look at the bearing prices on FCP. These are OEM parts but the prices are discounted from dealers.

That is crazy then if that is normal.
I don't live in snow so no experience with that....
On my 745t (256,000miles), they are still original, I think...well from the past ten years I have had her, and they are still fine.
