Default Puzzled with Transmission

Hi,

I recently purchased a Volvo S60 2.4T 02' with 116,xxx miles. The car has transmission issues, usually what happens is that when the car is up to temperature it take a while to engage in "D". Another thing that happens is that when you brake hard and try to get back on the gas quickly the car seems to be in neutral and after a second or two it grabs a gear.

To solve this issues I started reading through these forums and decided to go to David's Volvo trying to stay away from the dealer. The guy drove my car and told me thata flush might fix the tranny problem, if not the software upgrade at the dealer should fix everything. He told me they usually flush the fluid and add Motorcraft Mercron 5, that sounded kinda fishy but since he has fixed tons of Volvo for the moment I trust him. He then tells me if I wanted I could put some Lucas Transmission oil fix which also seems weird. Anyways I tell him I would prefer if they use the Mobil 3309 for my flush, he accepts.

When I left David's Volvo a decided to call the dealer to see how much they would charge me for the flush. What I got from them is that they dont recommend that. If I decided to do it, it would probably end up destroying my tranny (Different input from what I've heard here). They even said that the manual doesnt specify it, arent we suppose to change the fluid every 60,000??

Please let me know what you guys think about this...

Thanks in advance, sorry for the long post!

I would not recommend a complete flush either. IPD makes a great kit to go with the DIY project. They also sell the 3309. On my old S60 I did it twice. I would do half of the fluid, then drive it for a couple of weeks and then do it again. The reason I like the tranny return line from the radiator is it doen not subject the tranny to pressures beyond normal parameters or direction. What Volvo means is "as deemed necessary". All fluid will break down and that is a fact. I have yet to have a tranny problem with any three of my Volvos. Then again, I changed the fluid every 60k. I think 30k is overkill unless you tow. Just my opinion.

Thanks!

Already ordered 12qts of Mobil 3309 and bought the flush kit. I guess if problem still exists I should do the software upgrade...

I would have the neutral control function disabled as well.

Hmm, Is there a way I could figure out if it has been disabled without going to the dealer? If I have to go will they charge me for that?

Thanks in advance

my dad buys lucas oil and tranny additives for mercedes schoolbuses.. the rep told us that they make the only ford and GM certified tranny additives.. put some in my blazer that was clogged and slipping and just in bad shape and it helped it a lot..
