question about mobil1 0W40
hi, we just got a T5 recently and i don't know what oil the previous owner used. it has 53k miles on it now and i want to get a 52.5k mile service done and use fully synthetic oil from now on. i looked around a little bit and came across mobil1 0W40 - is this something that would suit the car in the conditions we use it? we live in the high desert in California, where the summer temperatures can easily reach over 110 degrees. or should i consider a different oil?
thanks

RE: question about mobil1 0W40
You've got the right idea with synthetic. The 0W-40 is a great oil. However, you won't get much use out of the 0W being your in a warm climate and because of the viscocity spread, this oil does shear back to a high 30 weight. It would work OK, but for these reasonsa 10W-30 would also work fine. It is much more shear resistant. The classic Mobil 110W-30 sharts off with a higher viscocity than the EP version, and it is cheaper as well. I would use it over the EP.
