So I've owned a volvo in my life before, a 2001 s40 1.9t. I loved the car to death, it was very fast for a 4 cyclinder, which brings me back to volvos more powerful cars. I had to sell my s40 for money issues because the tranny went out, costing 2,500k which I didn't have being so young...

I'm wondering about the s60 t5 and its reliability or known issues. I'm sure you know in 2005 they revamped the engine from a 2.3 to a 2.4 thus gaining some additional hp and torque. Does anybody know if this engine is reliable? I was leaning towards an acura TL but I think the 2005 t5 would be a better cruiser because of the torque appearing greater and much earlier. I love how to volvo s60s look and drive but I would be devasted if I ran into lets say another tranny failure. Can anybody give me some insight on the T5's reliability, preferably after the new engine? Thanks everybody

 

Well I know more about Hondas than Volvos but I do own a S60 T5. I know the earlier year S60s had transmission issues but those were fixed by 2005. From what I have read the engine in the T5s is incredibly reliable.

The one thing the Acura probably has the Volvo beat in is electrical gremlins, Volvos wiring seems to have a few issues.

 

I agree buying a 05 means that most if not all the issues that earlyer Volvos s60 had are no long an issue . Like you said the T5 has i believe runs at 250hp and if you were to add some mods/ Tuen that can get as high as 300hp+. I belong to a few Volvo forums and it seems that any issues that you may see all depends on previous owner and what the did as far as service and care. But 05 S60 T5 is a great choice. gl

Acura TLs have way more transmission issues than all volvos combined. The Acuras are nice cars but dont think because they are hondas they will be trouble free. Btw my old 2003 TL type S will walk a S60 T5.

 

Really? Was it a 2.3 t5? And was your acura stock or manual?
