My wife's 2003 s60 2.4t will occasionally, several times a day, downshift hard. Usually from 4th to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd. Sometimes it's soft and other times pretty hard. the car has 45000 miles on it. I took it to the dealer and had them update the tcu software but it didn't help. Any thoughts?

Is this an Auto?

01-02 Have Transmission Problems and some say the problems go on to 03-04 but are rare

Does it have any problem up shifting or picking a gear?

May want to flush the transmission, Its about $90 for 12 Quarts at www.ipdusa.com

 

It's an auto.I thoughtthat it doesn't need to be flushed till 75k. It has no probled upshifting, it's very smooth. Sometimes when coastingfrom 35mph and up it will thump as if it's not sure which gear to go into.Very strange. Do you really think a flush would help?

 

The fluid flush may help. Alot of people have had good results from the flush.

I'm Thinking that you may need to replace the lower trans mount...


I would inspect the trans mount, and go from there before you do the flush

I found the upper motor mount, by the drivers side strut, torn. I just replaced it and it seem to be better. Will know in a few days if it is the full fix. I will let you know.
