Default Replaced HID headlamp & ballast and got error message

Yo yo yo,

I installed one used HID / adaptive headlight and ballast because mine was ruined from condensation (2012 s60). I'm now getting an error message on the dashboard which states HEADLAMP FAILURE. SERVICE REQUIRED. The replacement headlamp light is on....its working.

Does anyone know a way around this? Is this a calibration issue?

Your Adaptive headlamp will need to have a software download to make it work (turn w/ steering) - that is for a new part - I'm not sure if you will ever be able to program the HCM (headlamp control module) to be able to talk to a used part. A good first step would be to use an appropriate scan tool - one that can talk to your HCM - and see what trouble codes are stored. You could use the free stolen/hacked 2014 VIDA software with a dice unit to help diagnose your car, but you will need a VIDA subscription to be able to deal with the software (if that's possible with a used part)

I trust if you reinstall your old headlamp the warning goes away - If so - transfer all of the electronics from your old unit - to the new one.

My friend ordered a used light and its ballast so I suppose that's the reason for the error. They will need to have it programmed. They don't have the capability or inclination to mess with software never mind the OBDII connector.

Thanks for your help hoonk!!!

As a general rule is you cannot program a used module to work on another car - so your best bet is to transfer the electronics (if possible) from the old unit to the new unit.

A company such as xemodex can reprogram some used modules - but i'm not sure about a headlamp module .

Volvo's are so unnecessarily complex.
