Replaced Timing Belt
Just thought I would post this Timing Belt Replacement post. My 2002 N/A has 92,000 miles; runs flawless but the 105k timing belt issue makes me nervous. I've been burned on those before and the damage is crazy. Anyway, I have an indy Master Volvo tech in Fort Myers, FL that replaced my timing belt, tensioner, idler, and fuel filter for $529.00 Total.I also requsted the auxiliary belt replaced like the the manual says, but themech said it looked like new and it didn't need replacement. An honest mechanic? I didn't know those were still around.
P.S.: Volvo Dealership wanted $750+

If you're in FL, the top-dog of the forum, Moderator Tech, may be nearby and I believe Tech now works at an independent shop. If I were you, I would take Volvo to Tech without the smallest doubt.
I know there are still honest technicians around, I would stick to independent shops that specialise in certain models (specific mfg, Euro, Japanese, etc...) and stay away from any of the franchise shops. A few dealers are still conscientious but they certainly do charge more.
Yes the timing belt is a serious business and that is a money very well spent. Replacement intervals differ on models, certain Volvos require 60,000 miles, whereas others require 70,000 or longer. But Tech recently has posted a precaution that on some Volvos the belt exhibits signs of wear well before reaching the specified lifespan. I used to have a '94 850, and even though the specified interval was 70,000 miles, I used to do it at every 60,000 miles or 5 years. Many Japanese mfgs have switched over to timing chains but Volvo seems to stick with the belt.
