Does any company make a suitable replacement battery other than using a Volvo OEM?Problem appears tobegetting a batterythat will accommodate the ventilation hose.

Get an interstate MT-48 battery with the adapter hose and it fits pretty good.
What we used to do at work was take a rubber mallet and on the L/S where the battery slides in tap the battery tray over some. You will see how it comes out some. Tap it about straight. Then we used to install a stud and nut instead of using the OE bolt. Then the clamp goes on tight but there will never be a worry about the battery coming loose.
