Return of Crank Sensor code
Hi Folks, 2006 S60 2.5T, 176,000mi. I had been experiencing intermittent hard starting for a little while, and back in February finally got a P0336 Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance code, along with the "Reduced Engine Performance" message. My Volvo shop replaced it along with the connector and some wiring. The same code and message re-appeared the other day after I thought it would turn over but did not. The next time I started the car, the error code cleared. Any other ideas?

The reason it returned is because the sensor was not the problem, and hardly ever is. The code is there you timing is probably slightly off by a tooth or so. I am surprised you Volvo mechanic just went and replaced the sensor without checking the timing.
You are more than welcome to replace more sensors, but I wouldn't doubt it being off time. One tooth can cause start problems, but with VVT it can run fine once started. It does not take a lot of work or time to check the timing marks and the mechanic can use VIDA to run a timing check as well to make sure everything is working and lined up.
