Thumbs up S60 drive-ability question (DIM removed)

Hi everyone

i have a 2003 S60. i was having the DIM issues like most everyone, so i purchased the repair service from BBA (like recommended in the forums). So question is can i drive the car without the DIM and not cause issues with the electronics of the car. I would assume nothing it regulated thru the DIM in the first place. Second - it didn't work anyway so i have been without it for weeks. Third i use my bluetooth ELM327 diagnostic tool and my tablet to keep track of speed and vitals. so it there any real reason i should not be able to operate as normal until my DIM comes back in a week?

thanks
Paul

It will operate but you'll probably have an SRS light on when you reinstall it. This will need to be cleared by a dealer

yeah i thought so but it was already displaying that message during the times it was working. which obviously means someone disconnected it before. I opened the DIM but it didn't appear anyone had tampered with it or tried some home remedy on it...thanks for the info

That doesn't mean someone had it out before. It could have a fault in the SRS system. But also, a fault in the DIM can set the light.

i removed it and checked all the vital working systems, the only thing i see that has been affected is the climate control will not turn off when you remove the key. however i just manually turned off the fan and seems also the door locks do not function (didn't think to check the windows.) oh well, lets see how it goes.

without DIM low speed CAN bus becomes broken.
To restore you need to connect 2 twisted pairs back.
In the DIM socket connect green with green and white with white.

I bought the repair service on ebay by BBA ($193). took a week to send it in and get it back. i drove the car the whole time it was out. (feels really weird) some things do not work window, sunroof, seat heaters, mirror, door locks, etc. the climate control system worked manually but no ac just heat and you have to turn the fan off when you exit the car. However after installing it back, everything now works great.

man those guys were fast and the thing worked great. absolutely recommend that service.
