S60 - Engine System warning light
I have a 2003 S60 with 22,000 miles on it. Yesterday, the warning message system on the dashboard displayed "ENGINE SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED", and the orange triangle lite with the exclamation point in the middle was on. This seems to be different from the typical "service required" message that shows up at scheduled intervals. This morning, the message didn't show up but I took the car to the dealer anyway for them to check it out. They claimed that this message was because I haven't taken the car in for regular services (i.e 5,000, 15,000), and they wouldn't look to see if anything was wrong. I do my own oil changes and what ever else needs to be done. I find it hard to believe that a warning light and message would come on just for this purpose on a car with only 22,000 miles and still under warranty. Has anyone else had this message come on and if so, what was the cause of it.
I'm very skeptical of this dealer and their service department, as everytime I've brought my car in, they've tried to sell me something I didn't need and I've seen them do it to other peolpe
Thanks for any help you can give

That is not the normal service light.Did they say they checked for codes? If that happens again ask for a copy of the codes.Another thing they might of pulled a code that lead to maybe the gas cap had been loose or something like that and then just wanted to sell you the service and forgot to tell you about the codes.Sorry you have so many problems at the dealer. If i can help more just let me know.

What could cause that light & the exclamation point. It happened to my wife (who is electronic kryptonite, by the way) & the car was just in the shop for a tune-up, I don't want to bring it back.

It could be about 100 diffrent things.Anything from a loose gas cap to a bad throttle body. You need to have the codes pulled to find out where the problem is.
