The cooling system warning light is staying on- my coolant is topped-up, no leaks in the system, my thermostat has only approx. 5000km. on it, there is heat coming from the rad., the temp gauge is normal-any suggestions why the light is on?

 

Which light? The low coolant light? Check to make sure the wires going into the sensor aren't corroded and coming apart. Also make sure the float in the reservoir is moving.

 

I had a similar symptom with my 1998 V70 XC. I had left the coolant tank cap loose and lost a little bit of antifreeze. I topped off the coolant and tightened the cap. All is fine now.

 

Thanks for all your help. The float in the reserve tank was stuck, once I freed it up all is well..no more annoying light.
