S60 having issues steering
I have moved this post to the s60 forum.
(I have a 2001 S60 2.4t that has about 112,000 miles on it. For some reason, my steering has become very difficult and also makes a squeaking sound when I turn the wheel (both right and left turns).
One repair shop told me I had a rusted out u-joint, but I question that particular shops knowledge of Volvo's. They did lubricate the joint which helped temporarily, but went back to being difficult about a month later. I just bought this car about 8 months ago... Any idea what it could be, and if this is potentially dangerous?
Thanks.)

I too, question the shop's knowledge on Volvos.
Have you checked the PWS fluid level? If low, add fluid to the correct level (I believe it uses ATF but check with your owner's manual). Also, your accessory belt (serpentine/PWS belt) is under good tension?
Look for an independent shop that specialises in Euro makes. If none is available close enough to you, you may have to bite the bullet and have a visit to the dealer. Should you decide to take the dealer route, make sure to tell them the symptom, and when they say some nonsense like "You need a new rack & pinion assembly for $1200", tell them to show you the fault without letting them cut the hydraulic line in 5 seconds.
Since I'm not privy to S60s, wait for S60 drivers/experts' replies.
