Default s60 K&N dropin filter...

Hi peoples. So I got a K&N air filter for my '08 s60 T5 and went to put it in. It is a lovely rectangular shaped filter...but my air filter in my compartment is cylindrical!!! As I've tried to find engine compartment schematics for my car I've found both views of air filters- some show rectangle, some show cylinder, in there. Any ideas as to which is right for my car, and where I can get a cylindrical one? I've looked all over autoanything.com, jcwhitney, etc. to find a filter- but the one they sent me is the only one that comes up. Thanks!!

Hi and welcome to Volvo Forums.

If you see a cylinder shaped filter in your car that's what kind you need to get. It's best to purchase parts from places that specialize in Volvo's or euro cars. Places like www.FCPEuro.com or www.iPdUSA.com.

something to keep in mind, as K&N filters are high flow for better performance, they let in more dirt particles into your engine and so into your oil, this will increase wear in your engine, particularly on a turbocharger as the turbine rides on an oil film at extremely high speeds.
i would never recommend a K&N air filter in a turbocharged daily driver.

tho to answer your question you need a cylinder filter.

Thank you for all the help! It is much appreciated. I'm definitely used to more "tuner" type cars that I tinker with... So all this info is very helpful. Thanks again!

I have used a drop in K & N filter in both of my turbo cars. Not sure if there is any issues with them or not. I haven't noticed any wear.

the more you change your oil, the less wear you get. i still would not recommend
a K&N filter for a turbo, but if you are very much so on top of your oil changes, the problem would be minimal. (every 3k mile oil changes)
