S60 Mods
High Everyone!!?
I have recently purchased a 2001 Volvo S60 T5 and am interested in beefing up the hp and torque a little. I have heard good things about the Upsolute chips. Does anyone here have any experience with these or other chips? I am also looking for a K&N air filter intake kit. Does anyone know wher I can get a good price on one? What other mods have you used and been successful with?
Thanks For Any Input,
Swish
I am also a new s60 owner but a long time car guy. I have to recommend against K&N filters. Blasphamy I know! Why do i recommend against them? Well a couple reasons. First at best you are talking a 1% gain in horse/torque. That is at ABSOLUTE best. In reality there is probably little gain. Second, because of the fact that they are less restrictive than a paper filter more debris does get through. The particles that get through are also coated in the oil that coates the K and N. THis can lead to premature MAF damage and throtle body damage as well. The only place a K & N is appropriate is a track car that wont face any dirty air. Otherwise go with a performace paper or foam, foam is really the best.
For mods (and this is comming from someone in the muscle car world so please correct me if I am wrong) I would say go with an ECU, Boost Controler and Intercooler. That is at least the way i am probably going to go.

Hello there! You may want to take a look at the IPD website at www.ipdusa.com
They are an excellent company and have many upgrades/accessories for the S60 including ECU upgrades. Rica and Evolve also have reliable chips. You may be interested in purchasing springs and lowering the suspension. Whatever you do, do not mod the car to an extreme and make sure you don't void the warranty.

What size is the stock exhause? Is there an exhaust that you recommend? What is most important to upgrade...downpipe, catalytic converter, or muffler? How difficult is it to replace the downpipe? Sorry about all of the questions. I am new to the upgrade stuff.
Thanks for the help!
Thanks for the help!
I think the exhaust is 2" stock. Havent done mine yet, but Im planning on Evolve by the end of the year.
Most of the time u upgrade the cat with the downpipe; the muffler would be upgraded with a cat-back exhaust system. Im going to get the downpipe, cat and exhaust (with muffler) at one time.
My guess is the cat and downpipe would give u more power as opposed to a cat-back, if u went with one or the other. An aftermaket place could tell u for sure
