Default S60 Oil Change.

Just changed the oil on my S60. Looked around and could not find the torque specs for the drain plug. I tightened it down to 30 ft. lbs. Too much?? I tightend the filter housing to 25 nm (@ 18 ft. lbs.)

Also, when changing the filter.....is it difficult at first to get the housing to screw back on the block? I see the filter kinda has to "press" into the little "nozzle". I had the impression that the filter would just drop right into the housing like the fuel filter on my diesel truck. Not so.

If anyone could provide me with the torque specs for the drain plug...it would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Be careful torquing too much. I just spent over $500 for a $20 oil change because the threads had stripped out (120,000 miles) and they had to install a Heli-coil. The Firestone store swore they couldn't find a longer drain plug to replace the old one.

Thats why I'm asking!! Is 30 ft lbs too much torque on that drain plug??? I bought a new magnetic drain plug from idp for like 8 bucks.

I was going to say 25Ft-#'s. So we are square on that one.

Moot point since you have already bought a mag drain plug. Most of the particulate would be aluminum which is non magnetic so it won't catch much. If it's large enough the filter will catch it anyway.

You are using an aluminum washer right?

I am using the washers that IDP sent with the plug, I assume they are aluminum. The other thing that bothered me was how the filter element fit into the filter casing and housing, I just didnt "feel" right to press the filter on the housing nozzle so the case could screw onto the housing. I guess this is normal, just weird to me. Next up is the tranny flush.

Yes, they are aluminum.
