S60 Questions
If you don't get the turbo model, don't bother. NA Volvo's have no kick in the pants at all and if you get an NA you will be sorry you did.
So it comes down to do you want the T5 or the R model.

I think I like the body style of the Volvos better than Audi's right now also. Also wouldn't the A4 be more of the S40 size? The S60 may give you a slightly bigger car. I like the size of mine after coming out of a boat sized older SHO. Don't really miss any room. Trunk is even decent sized.
go for the s60 t5 or R has good kick but get a dealer warrenty (new or cert pre-owned) and i would suggest getting it at the volvo dealer unless money is not an issue or you are very mech inclined(parts are still expensive) dont know much bout the a4 but you will be pleased with s60 performance
I own a S60T5 '04 model and have enjoyed it's performace alot. It has great
low end torque for an automatic. I rented a 06 Audi A4Cabriolet with the 3.0L V6
engine when I was in San Francisco last Jan and drove it up to the Napa Valley,
so I got a good chance to run it on Hwy and country roads. Hated the cars performance,
what a slug. Maybe the the 1.8T engine is more responsive.

This thread may be dated, you likely bought a car already. Since I just asked a question on this board, I felt I should try to answer one as well.
We own both a 2002 S60 T5 and a 2005 Audi A4 1.8T.
Long trips= Volvo
Way more comfortable for passengers as well as driver. I tend to fall asleep driving this car.
Power= Volvo
My wife blows the doors off me in a traffic setting, I catch her on the freeway, but she has way more power.
Fun= Audi
My car drives like it's on rails and is much sportier in it's feel. She actually chooses to drive mine alot.
I have never driven the bigger engined Audi's, but the Volvo seems to be a better all around sport sedan if you tend to carry passengers IMO.

Good Question!
I just bought an S60R, I was looking at BMW 330I and Audi A4 3.0 when I stumbled across the S60R. I picked up my S60R on Monday of this week and WOW! this car impresses me way more than the BMW and the A4, and I test drove both of them! Yes! the S60R is an S60 on steriods but youget huge bang for the buck with the S60R! Beleive me! I smile every time i get in the car and every time I leave a Beemer in my dust! Only downside is the S60Rwants premium grade Gas
Good luck!

I drove a 97 850 GLT for about 5-6 years, and loved the low pressure turbo. I gotta say since i got my 04 s60R I am blown away by the performance and quality. I catch myself looking back at the car everytime I get out.
Hi guys I bought my first Volvo 4 months ago. A 2006 2.5T. I'm very pleased with the performance and since I've had the 'daylights' turned off I'm getting an extra 3-4 mpg. She has zenons. My only gripe is the Pirelli's.
The Volvo drives amazing. It depends what you are looking for? Audi's don't keep their market value that well. I have the Volvo 2.5T AWD, amazing car. It's 210hp with 240lb ft torque, which is very quick. I was going for the T5 but the AWD attracted me the most, and the 2.5T has more than enough power for me. If your looking for an Audi, I guess your looking for AWD? I would check the 2.5T AWD, before you try out the R model, that car will get you many speeding tickets.

Is it really faster? I thought for sure the s60t5 is way faster than the a4 1.8t? Id guess the s60t5 at least as 50-80 more hp
