Default S60 SRS Airbag Service Urgent

Sorry if I'm duplicating anything here, but i feel like sharing this little adventure of mine with everybody.

This afternoon I got the above annoying message on my dash.
So here it goes:
I'm a bit too meticulous with cleaning so I decided to wipe the dust under my front seats and from their cable connectors. I found the passenger side connector box lid open and thought I should close it. I did the same thing on the driver's side as well.
Starting the car, later on, I noticed that the seatbelt minder was totally gone! So, thinking that this would be an easy one I went over those connectors just to ensure a snug fit; on no account did I disconnect anything (at that time). Well, seatbelt minder came back to life but with a...bonus..."SRS Airbag Service Urgent", SRS red warning light, red triangle etc.
So I did my homework, disconnected the battery's neg, unplugged and cleaned with contact cleaner all connectors and had them plugged back in.
But the bloody message would not go from my dash. Since everything was normal before I touched those wires and since I had them properly cleaned and fitted I am 100% convinced that the gremlin in my case had something to do just with a faulty contact beneath the seats.
Finally, I had my ECU flashed with an update from BSR, crossing fingers that the new flash would wipe the error from my dash. And, lucky me, it did!
It's obvious that the update itself had nothing to do with error messages existing but a flash certainly wipes them off your system. So if some of you have peristent error messages which you know or can safely assume they're false, and are lucky enough to own a PPC, well give (re)flashing your car a thought before taking that trip to the dealer's.

Default Equipment for reprogramming/flashing

How can you obtain the equipment/software to update your car yourself? Are they expensive? My volvo is saying SRS-Airbag Service Urgent now after I just replaced my instrument cluster. It would be nice to clear this message and/or detect any issues without having to take my vehicle anywhere.

Hi,
Just to make things straight, my case was a clear false error, with a clear source, an error which I was able to replicate at will. I cannot tell if your case is the same nor if the procedure that I followed can remedy faults of this kind in general.
Furthermore a SRS related fault msg should be taken seriously unless its nature and source is absolutely known (as in my case).
Bear on mind that BSR's software is just tuning your ECU towards performance ie is re-mapping engine management. The S60 as far as I know uses a separate module for each and every subsystem onboard (a total of 17 if I can correctly recall).Flashing the ECU WILL clear all stored false codes but it is safe to assume that truly faulty items will pop up again on the dash even after flashing.
BSR DOES NOT recommend flashing when fault codes are present however this particular fault would not be an issue(wasn't for me).
As about pricing, a typical S60 MY04 stage 1 upgrade which comprises of the ppc/software costs around 1000 usd.
The tuning result is worth every penny but it's not intended as a repair, rather as a walk around to clearing bogus fault codes while it does what it says on the tin...
My opinion is you give it one more shot trying to find out the actual fault as I sense it's gonna cost you less and the tuning is not a sure-fire fire solution for actual faults, just a walk around which worked for me, the PPC is something i happened to have at my disposal and used it to my advantage.
Hope this makes things clear, I'd be glad if it helped

I am in no way affiliated with BSR nor their dealers, just a customer... ;-)
