Default S60 wont shift from R

Hello everone
im from Guatemala and i recently buy a 2004 S60 T5.
it has a little crash in the front driver side, so i figure that was an easy fix, but now i have it in my garage, and when i charge the battery notice that the shift **** was in R, however the car moves like it was in N. try to start the car but could not, i think is because you cant start a car when is in gear.
so my question is, does anybody has an idea what can it be?

thanks

Does the shift selector move freely thru all the gears?
Have you tried to start it with the selector in 'P'.

You say the selector was in 'R', but the car can move forwards/backwards.
(appears to be in neutral?)
Has the vehicle been towed after the accident whilst left in reverse gear?

Vehicles with auto transmission should not be towed with the drive wheels on the road at all.

If the drive wheels were free turning after the accident and the gear selector was still placed in reverse it sounds like the transmission may have been damaged internally by an impact force having moving the vehicle.

I think you probably need to have her checked out by Volvo dealership or a specialist transmission service repair shop to diagnose the transmission irregularites.
