Default S60T brake talk...

Howdy All, my GF still loves her '04S60T. Shes got near 30K miles on it now and its gettingto betime for the first brake job.

I will be doing thismyself as im good at brake jobs...be doing them for years.

Few questions before I dive in are:

Do I need to straight upreplace therotors?

I believe there are different size rotors and pads for optional wheel/tire packages, correct? Shes sporting 17's.

Anything else I should be clued in about?

Thanks for any replies...like to be informed andprepared as possible, if you know what I mean

On a side note I bought her a Sony CD/MP3 stereo for Christmas, easy install, huge improvement. The factory speakers far exceed thelimits of the factory stereo. The new system sounds great!

The rotors and pads are the same size. For all packages.

Do you have tools to measure the rotors?

You usually get 2 to 3 sets of pads to the rotors.

you should measure the thickness of the rotors to be sure. you can get a digital micrometer for pretty cheap at harbor freight or such place. You should have the rotors with a 23mm minimum thickness spec. if the rotors measure 23.8mm replace both pads and rotors. at 30k you should be alright to do just pads, but it depends on driving habits.

Default RE: S60T brake talk...

I attemped the job last Saturday. The fast way to remove the stuck on front rotors is to apply pressure from the rear of rotor bywedging along pry bar(for leverage)between the spindle and the rotor then giving the rotor a couple hammer blows on the lug hole area.

I went to have the rotors turned. They were measured andI was told that they could be turned down to the limit, however it was recommend that I just replace them as they would more than likely warp and wear out pads quickly. This was at a brake shop I get all my rotors turned at.Back together it went with the old parts.

I had a hard time finding the rotors as they were special order at 5 different part stores.I ended up getting them online at www.partsandaccessories.com Good price and fast service, free shipping, 4 rotors $200 shipped.

So I picked up front and rear ceramic pads and 4 new rotors all for $325. I will give it another shot probably this weekend.

One thing I found strange is that 16" and up wheels were calling for a 12" rotor. This car has factory17's with 11" rotors.

Hopefully this post will help or give somehelpfulinfo to any do-it-yourselfers out there.
