Should I buy S60 with only passenger airbag deployed?
Please help,
Looking to buy a car for my daughter. Looking at a 2004 S60 2.5 Turbo with the passenger airbag deployed for $3000. Of course this assumes all other mechanicals check out. I have considerable experience working on vehicles but no experience with airbags or Volvos.
What would I need to do to make the driver airbag operable?
What about fixing the passenger side too, how much to do myself?
How difficult?
A fast response would be appreciated, I need to purchase a car soon and would love to get a Volvo and I need to know what I'm getting into.
Thanks in advance!

Well, just a quick response would be no. In my opinion that is. The airbag is deployed so obviously it's been wrecked? I would never buy a wrecked car for myself, much less my child. Just my opinion.
Well if you are planning in buying it also plan to spend alot to make it road worthy.
You will need a new dash and passenger air bag. If the air bag went off that would also mean the seatbelts did. If so they will all have to be replaced. Plus the SRS control module will have to be replaced as well. Then the Dealer will have to download software to make it all good again.
You are talking about alot of $$$$ to get it working again.

This sounds like an insurance total/salvage car. Costs more to fix properly than it will be worth fixed properly. And, when you're done, depending on the state where you live, you'll have a title with the horrible brand: "SALVAGE" stamped into it, meaning its resale value is very limited. Car's of more use to someone needing engine, trans, some body panels, radio, heater core, etc. Auto recycler's dream, your nightmare.
