Synthetic Oils
I recently bought an S60 R, and I know the previous owner used synthetic oil, as will I. But I do not know which one he used, will it matter if I don't use the same oil he did. If it does not, any recommendations, I was leaning towards Mobil 1, but if someone has another recommendation, I'm open to them.
Thanks

RE: Synthetic Oils
There are lots of good oils out there. There is also lots of great marketing by the oil manufacturers. Mobil 1 is a good oil but it wasreformulated recently into a "fake" synthetic or hydrocracked oiljust like Castrol Syntec. To get a true synthetic, the only ones left are the oils from the small companies like Amsoil, Redline and the like. To check if a synthetic oil truly is a synthetic and not hydrocracked dino, check the MSDS sheets for the product. These areavailable from the manufacturer online (MSDS= Material Safety Data Sheet).

RE: Synthetic Oils
2002v70 speaks the truth mobil 1 is reformulated petrolium product (hydrocracked). Amsoil is 100% synthetic
I use this 10w30 :http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/atm...amp;zo=1231081
here are some charts comparing the different 100% synthetics to the hydrocracked synthetics:http://www.oilsyntheticoil.com/page/1089352
I get 24-25 mpg on regular crusing at at 75 mph in ct with my 05 r 6m. On premium it is lower by about 10%.

RE: Synthetic Oils
Rdriver, there is no proof about what is written above regarding Mobil 1. People just want to spread rumors. There was one oil tested from the Mobil 1 EP line that the tester claimed had some Group III blended in. Now suddenly all of their oils are all Group III? Wrong. Mobil 1 is still a great product. You can't go wrong with it. It can be found at Walmart for a good price. I would suggest you use theoriginal Mobil 1 instead of the EP line, especially if you are going to stick to the Volvo-suggested change intervals. It is cheaper and more than capable of these intervals.
Have used Mobil 1 and Amsoil. Both good products.
