Default Temperature Gauge Not reading a Temp.

Hello everyone I own a 2006 S60 2.5T. I am new here & so glad I found this site! So I was leaving work today & when I was pulling into my driveway I noticed my gauge isn't reading a temp what so ever! I turned the car off & tried starting it an hour later when I noticed the car was taking a long time to start like it would crank for awhile before starting then it would idle high for no reason for a short period before it would it return to normal. Has anyone ever encountered this situation before? Now I'm concerned because I don't know what to do & would like any info thank you! Any help is greatly appreciated.

No temp reading indicates a thermostat problem. Pretty simple to do...look up a how to.

So I never bothered with the Thermostat because like I had stated it was the Temperature Gauge not reading but the heater was fine temperature of engine was fine. So I ended up replacing the temperature relay switch Reset the computer with a OBD2 Scanner, But I still was getting a Check Engine So we did another scan & found it to be the battery. All was replaced & car runs like a champ. I just wanted to share so if this ever happens to anyone maybe this will help.
