Timing belt noise
'04 S60 Manual 74K miles .
Timing belt started making noise. I thought that the belt was dry so I sprayed it with WD40. This made no difference. There is very little noise when the engine is idling. It mainly occurs when the engine is revved or when driving in gear. Noise appears to be at the top of the drive train by the alternator.
Anybody got any ideas. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your reply tech. You were correct in your assessment.
I had already brought the car to my mechanic. The problem was not with the timing belt.He spotted that the crankshaft pulley was wobbling slightly. On further inspection the rubber insert was falling apart. Pulley needs to be replaced.
Thanks again.
