Default Timing belt noise

'04 S60 Manual 74K miles .
Timing belt started making noise. I thought that the belt was dry so I sprayed it with WD40. This made no difference. There is very little noise when the engine is idling. It mainly occurs when the engine is revved or when driving in gear. Noise appears to be at the top of the drive train by the alternator.
Anybody got any ideas. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I would have to checked ASAP if the belt breaks or a pulley breaks the head is done.

Thumbs up Timing/Auxilliary Drive Belt

Thanks for your reply tech. You were correct in your assessment.
I had already brought the car to my mechanic. The problem was not with the timing belt.He spotted that the crankshaft pulley was wobbling slightly. On further inspection the rubber insert was falling apart. Pulley needs to be replaced.
Thanks again.

With 74k miles on the vehicle, I assume you've never had the timing belt and pulleys replaced before? Did you get the timing belt replaced too while you were in there? I can see why some recommend doing these maintenance items every 70 miles or 7 years instead of the 100k miles Volvo recommends.

So these motors are not non-interference then...
