I have a 2001 S60 T5, my first car with a traction control system. I have something of a heavy foot, so often when acceleerating hard while turning on slippery surfaces the traction control will step in to keep my wheel spin to a mininmum, but it will sometimes make a horrible mechanical grinding sound [:@] (similar to the sound you hear if you try to start a car when the engine is running). Is this normal?

 

Yes. Makes you get your foot off the loud pedal rather sharpish!!
