Default V70 T5 Climate Contol fryed

Took 2001 v70 T5 into dealer this AM for 65K service. They called me later in the AM and said that I needed Turbo retrun line sealant and new mass air flow sensor. No problem - $1100. I show up to pickup my car and the climate control area is 'DEAD' (i.e., not working - as though the car is off). Dealer says 'That's odd' and takes it back into the shop. Manager returns 30 min later to tell me that the ECC Board is fryed and that to replace it is another $1000. This seems crazy to me. It was working when I took the car in and I have never had a problem with the climate control system - ever! Could this just be a technician that uncoupled the battery and then did not resequence the start? Dealer claims system fryed under their watch but that these systems fry all the time and it was just bad timing. Also, how lucky for me to be at the dealer when it happened so they can fix it. Any help is greatly appreciated - this just seems impossible to me.

Thanks

I have never heard of that on a 2001 model.

When they did a MAF sensor did they do a Download?

If they did the car might have had a problem with the software.
