Tranny Problems, Question and Warning!
I added to the trans fluid discussion discussing my current problems with my tranny on 01 s60 T5.
I just want to post a warning and ask a question. I took my car to a friend for servicing. He is not a volvo mechanic and I have know him a long time and he gives me good breaks on cars I have serviced there.
Here is my warning:
If a mechanic doesn't specialize in volvos, don't use him unless he educates homself about the procedure!
Here is what he did. He removed the drain plug and drained the tranny. He then REMOVED the top plug to refill it. He had a devil of a time getting that plug out. Why? Cause that is NOT a fill plug!
It is the B4anchor bolt hole. Believe it or not, it is a common mistake. But when it happens you lose third gear.
Now, from what I have read, you can't fix it without a rebuild.
Here is my question:
Does anyone know a fix for this other than a rebuild? I have heard there is but don't know for sure.
My tranny is toast. It shouldn't have been. If I had taken it to the local volvo experts (not the dealer) they would have done a flush and fill.
If you have taken your car with the aw 55-50 to a shop and had the tranny fluid changed and gotten it back with no third gear, then this has happened to you. You can see the marks on the bolt. It sits right on top of the tranny dead center. Sure looks like a fill hold.
