Motor and Tranny mounts and lower arm bushings
Just got a call from my mechanic for my 2009 S40.
He said these parts need to be replaced. I haven't noticed anything really out of sorts with the car; I brought it in just to have him look around.
So, is it really necessary now? Car has about 135,000 miles (215,000 Kilometers) and seems to be running smoothly.
How would I know if there was really a problem with these parts?
Any advice would be great, thanks.
Mike

Mike I have a 2004.5 T5 S40 with 145,000. I have replaced shocks all around and drivers side half-shaft, but NOT the lower control arms. Typically, these would replace if the rubber bushings are worn and cracked, but my car still seems to handle fine, so I will wait. The motor/tranny mounts can actually break (crack in the metal alloy). If this is the case, you want to replace. Otherwise, I would doubt that the rubber is worn so badly that it needs replacement at this time. Hope that helps.

Is your car acting up? Is this diagnosis in response to some event?
My 2005 has had the motor mount replaced after it cracked in half at the rubber. Symptoms were a knocking noise during acceleration. The trans mount was not touched and it's still good.
I've also had to weld the bottom aluminum bracket for the lower motor mount as it had a very large and obvious crack in the aluminum.
Never replaced the control arms bushings yet. The last time I checked they looked in decent shape with no obvious cracks.
