Default Tranny Question

Can anyone explain this one...

Every now and then when the car shifts from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd, it almost seems like it misses a shift or something and the car just revs way up...than it catches and its fine. It has been starting to do this about every other day or so. I did have the software upgraded for the transmission back a few months ago.

With my axle needed replaced, a check engine light on and a goofy transmission, is it time to cut my losses on this car? It has 99K on it...I'm in for the big timing belt change here in a few months as well. Any advice??

Sounds like a definate problem.
But if there is codes in the transmission it will shift funny till either it is fixed or the codes are cleared.

Get the timing belt inspected I have only seen Few cars actually go to 105,000 on the stock timing belt.
Also make sure the tensioner and Idler get replaced.

If the Belt breaks then you will be looking at about $3,000 to get it fixed.

Thanks for the info...

Will the tranny codes cause the "Check Engine" light to come on or is that another issue?

A code in the tranny will cause a check engine light as well.

I have the same problem, but its only aftert agressive driving then driving slow for a bit then agressive driving again. I'm speaking of the tranny shift dealy. I know on the Vw's that the drive by wire causes this same problem. I need to change my timing belt that reminds me.

I am the second owner and have no records on the car. Is it possible to determine if the timing belt has been changed? $$ cost? I have an 01 S60 2.4. I also experienced the delayed shift problem once. I wonder if its a sign of things to come or a freak thing.

You can inspect the belt and see if it has cracks.
How many miles on the car?

The tranny might need a software upgrade or be a freak thing.

140KM should be about 87,000 miles.
It might not have been done yet.

About $300.00 to $400.00 US.

I would go to your local dealer and see if the can apply a TCM upgrade that will fix your symptoms. It's probably the cheaper than any other options you have.

Sorry for not updating. I have not got it checked out yet. My car was in for a new axle Monday, but the CEL went off and it shifted fine all weekend. It has not done it again since. [&:]

This car does have an adaptive transmission, right? My wife is the one who drives the car all the time...could it be the tranny is cofused at my different driving style? Of course, I drive it right!

Yes the transmission is adaptive.
It adapts to driving styles. But it shouldn't go real wacky when someone else drives it.
