Question transmission got better due to long drive

My 2002 S60 shows typical symptoms of transmission slippage and I've been told by a local mechanic that it needs to be replaced. On some forums though, people claim that replacing a censor or air flow intake module solved the problem for them. Two days ago I went on a long trip of about 500 miles and since then the car behaves much better. It seems like a long drive changed the whole pattern, at least temporarily since the change that I observe now is dramatic. Does it make any sense to anybody?

Like I posted on another thread, flush your atf- total if u know how w/ JWS3309 fluid then observe if there's any improvement. Then go to your local dealer and have them do a software upgrade w/c would solve your trans. prob. 01-02 have bad trannys but the upgrade will solve the prob. if there are no internal damages due to neglect in changing fluids. If u don't know how to do a total flush, drain and refill then run for a couple hundred miles, then repeat the drain and fill till you're satisfied about the condition of the fluid. It should be red in color. Don't just have them replace the tranny. They just want to make money.

+1 99% of the time on 01-02 S60 and even all the way up to 07 a trany flush with 12 quarts of Mobil 3309 will do Wonders for most issues. There are some software problem that you should have updated. But the trany flush is Very easy and anyone can do it in the drive way with 12 qts.Mobil 3309, Milk jug marked every 2 quarts and IPDS flush kit.Thats it and will do a world of good for any one Driving a S60 no matter what the year.

Thank you for the input. Let me ask you, wouldn't it be better if a specialist does that? Also, I used to think that what you are describing is referred to as fluid change, and the term flush is reserved for high pressure flush with some fancy machine. Is this correct? And which way is better? Thanks!

U don't need any special power equipment to flush ur atf. Go over to matthews volvo site n locate the atf flush and its complete w. pics and instructions. If u r not comfortable doing it urself, don't do it. This is only for the diy'ers who want to save $$$.
