Transmission Service Required error
I have searched around on the forum and I haven't found a real satisfactory answer to this one, so here we go:
I have an '01 S60 2.4 T. I took it to the shop to change oil, (had themswitch from standard oil tosynthetic), and they reset the regular maintenance light. Idrove about15miles, (the odometer turnedover toabout 70,500 miles), and my "Transmission Service Required" error engaged. I took it back to the shop and they looked at it. They decided that there were no pending or current codes for transmission service. They tried to reset the light to no avail. They called their diagnostic company, ALLDATA to get information on how to reset the error message. Finally I was told that ONLY the dealer can shut this error message off.
The shop checked the transmission fluid and determined it to be fine. They reset the regular maintenance light at that time and 15 miles later I have a scary error message.
Did the shop give me good information when they said that ONLY a dealer can shut the light off?

Only someone that has the Volvo Diag. software for tranny's can read all the codes and clear them.
Most aftermarket softwares can't read the codes.

Man, I should just give you $40 to tell me stuff cause I just gave those guys $40 after they told me they couldn't do anything with it
I'm not mad. I think my mechanic is good, but I don't know how much experience he has workin on Vovlo's.
So, what does the dealer charge to shut the thing off? I have a scheduled maintenance @ 75,000for a check and possible replacementof trans fluid, does this have to do with the error message?

It might have something to do with it and might not.
Some Dealers will charge 1/2 hour to read and other might charge 1 hour.
Depends
Sometimes if you ar edoing work with them they might clear it for Free.

if u don't have shifting issue (meaning drives fine without bumping into gears violently or slipping) I've seen that 01 S60 the transmission control module may set a code for neutral control issue. All they have to do is todownload a software to fix the issue. By the that message don't come on without a reason have it checked out before other stuff goes wrong with the transmission.
