I do not know what my kids did, but they laid in the trunk as a game and played with the lid, now it will not shut. I asked if they pulled the emergency release, but they said no. I want to believe them but kids, you know...

Has anybody had this before? I can drive around and the trunk stays shut, but I have the message on the dash board and I guess eventually I will make a hard stop and the lid will come up.

The locking mechanism remains in the open position.

I tried different things, pushing the button in the back, on the remote, on the dash board, to no avail.

That's bother me a little bit. Probably a broken spring. When I inspected the vehicle before buying it, it opened and locked just fine. I don't think it is a big defect.

Either a feature I ignore or a $2 part.

Check the emergancy handle and make sure it wasn't shifted a little holding the setup on not allowing it to close.

 

yeah, just push the emergency handle back and it should be fine.

 

Fixed. It was stuck behind the elastic and of course kept the latch from locking.

Pushed it back and it works great now.

 

Had roughly the same problem. Wiggled the plastic handle, rapped the plastic latch
with my knuckles a few times. Works fine.
