Default Un-Usual Mis-fire issue.. Help!

Hi All,

New here and hoping to raid your knowledge a bit!

I am the owner of a 2003 Volvo S60 2.0T SE.

Very recently (Friday the 13th no less!) I was only my way to test drive a new car (Again I belive they call this sods law!) and I got off the motorway for me to spot my EML Flashing and going solid car lost most of it's power. Had the codes read and there were miss-fires in 2,4 and 5 present. The garage I took it to reccomended a second oppinion as they thought it may of well been a Coil Pack issue (Which for me would be the normal..) anyway, took to a specialist in my local area who have ruled out the Coil-Packs stating that they are fine, yet these missfires are still present, thus far they have ruled out the following:
  • Coil Packs
  • Injectors
  • Fuel Pump (There is some 'drift' but the car is fine even with 1 Bar of fuel left)
  • ECU Seems OK (Not 100% ruling this out yet though)
  • Car still miss-firing with no Cat Conv on it
  • Compression test came back OK
Now to me there isn't alot of conventional stuff that could possibly be left that would be causing the missfires (O2 Sensor/Lambada perhaps also?) but as my knowledge is limited in this sort of thing I could do with some other possibilities as I think after 4 days the garage are still scratching their heads as to what is wrong with it. Since all of this diagnosis work and now there are now missfires in all the cylinders except Cylinder 1.. not sure if this is relevant??

Work completed in last 10k:

- New Clutch
-Timing Belt Change
- Service (Regular)

Any help appriciated.

Where'd you buy your last tank of gas....er, petrol?
What condition is your battery in?
Bad MAF sensor?
Intake air leak somewhere downstream of the MAF sensor?
Fuel pressure regulator?
Blocked fuel filter?
Bad O2 sensor?
Plugged PCV system?
Bad crankshaft position sensor?

Also, what spark plugs do you have and when were they installed?

Remove the upper timing belt cover and check the timing belt tension. Should be very tight.

No where different than normal - Local supermarket

What condition is your battery in?
Reasonable. I have left the lights on once or twice (Had cars for ages that turned themselves off) very occasionally can take 4-5s to turn over though.

Bad MAF sensor?
I'll add that to the list but they did state that the compression test was ok

Fuel pressure regulator?
Again, stated that fuel pressure seemed OK.

Blocked fuel filter?
Another one to add

Bad O2 sensor?
Am going to ask them to check this as I don't think they have

Plugged PCV system?
Again another one for them to check

Remove the upper timing belt cover and check the timing belt tension. Should be very tight.
Timing belt was only changed aboue 3k ago and I think they have double checked it.

Plugs were last done on the service when I first picked it up about 9 months ago. Not sure what sort of plugs they are but I will ask them to make sure that they have changed em.

Thanks for that
