Volvo 2001 s60 Brake/ABS Diagnosis
Hello all!
I am new and experiencing difficulty diagnosing an issue with my vehicle.
A week ago i got a check engine light and the codes read faulty upstream and downstream o2 sensors. I replaced upstream and check engine light is gone. I did not replace downstream.
For about a month since i changed my brakes and roters the car has been throwing random brake failure messages with flickering ABS and occasionally the anti skid light. I have read so much and it sounds like it could be at least 3 different things.
Lastly today while driving the car threw a message "drive slowly, service urgent" and the car would sputter and jerk when accelerating after switching gears, eventually it would resume regular acceleration. There was a similar diagnosis with this last symptom as a bad ABS module. This last symptom is the most concerning because it interferes with safe vehicle operation.
I am new to this car and have had it for less than a year but i am interested in working on it on my own when possible. I love to figure out and solve these issues when they arise.
I hope i provided a complete picture for anyone reading, i appreciate and and all leads to help me fix my little car! Thank you

welcome to the forum. Just to note, you will get the most views and feedback by posting to the forum specific to your car model. Regarding your ABS light, if you suspect the problem started after doing pads/rotors, its quite possible you nicked or tugged on the ABS sensor wire at one of the wheels. You can try inspecting the connection or replace the sensor - check Youtube for some vids or look at the sticky notes on the s60 or s70 forums.
As to the engine sputter - that could be a few different things such as a bad coil pack or a fuel pressure sensor etc. Since the speed sensor feeds through the ABS computer, it will impact shifting and throw codes - not sure if engine sputters are symptomatic of an ABS module gone bad. So the first step would be to see if you have any OBD2 "check engine light" (CEL) codes stored in the computer. You can usually get the OBD2 read at a big box auto parts store for free. For more info on ABS modules, check out RoachaTek, midwest-abs.com and xemodex.com.
