Default Volvo S60 2005. key gets stuck in ignition and also shifting gear

hello guys.

i have a problem with my Volvo S60.

the closest dealer is kind of far away and im trying to solve this issue by myself

i have this problem where my car key just seems to get stuck.
i turn off the car and try to take out the key sometimes it wont let me
even if I wiggle it
so sometimes i wait a few minutes and for some reason it comes out with no problem.

sometimes the opposite is true the car key just comes with no problem whatsoever it just seems to happen randomly.

the other weird issue i have is with my shifter.
when it gets really cold this seems to happen a lot more.
i have to wait 10-15 minutes for my car to warm up before it lets me shift to reverse or drive.

right now im having that problem more often and i just pull on the shifter hard enough so it goes to reverse and after that is working perfectly fine.

I can put it again on park move it to any position and it wont get stuck. but if i shut off the car and then start it and try to move i might have same problem.

i tried putting graphite powder for the key and that didn't help at all.
im not sure if i can put DW-40 on ignition if that would be a bad thing for electrical components inside or not.

i would hate to drive a long distance to take it to dealer and then it works perfectly and then i have same problem again.

the problem just seems to happen at random.

any advice is appreciated

Just a guess, but from the symptoms you described it may be the brake safety lock system that prevents engaging the ignition or disengaging the gear selector from the park position is showing signs of wear and tear.

I have a 2004 S60, and EXACTLY the same issues. First it was the ignition, so I had to take it in and they changed the ignition tree (or something like that) out; haven't had the issue since. Then the getting stuck in park started. Intitially, I noticed my issues only when it was cold outside - my car would also seem to get stuck in neutral while going down the road, resulting in it roaring and then lurching back into gear - but only when it's cold outside. For the moving out of park issue, I've experienced it in the cold, hot, after the car has been running for hours, and when it cranks for the first time of the day. Always random; and never resolved by doing anything in particular. One time it released when I turned the flashers on and off; one time, it wouldn't release until the oil pressure gage reached a certain point, one time the idle had to drop so low, one time I tapped my brakes, the volvo guy tapped the trigger on the shifter - and after all these tricks it would release, but that trick worked only ONE time, so clearly it was coincidence. The dealer thought for sure it needed a new shift ****, so for $104 I got a new shift ****. Picked my car up Thursday, and on Saturday, it would not move out of park, and I had just stopped in after an hour-long drive. Came right back out and it wouldn't budge. Left for a while, came back, and it shifted with no problem. Totally random, and so far NO ONE can tell me what the issue is. Everything I've seen or heard that someone did to correct it, did not work. I know this is no help to you, but would like to keep updated on what anyone else finds about this issue. It has my Volvo folks stumped too.

Thanks!

Oh, sorry, I just saw the brake safety lock comment. My Volvo checked that and said my brake safety lock is working. He said to test it, hold your hand on the gear **** (I think engage the button), and press your brake. He said you can feel it engage (a little thump or click).
