Volvo S60 2007 CamShaft position Question
Hey forum, I'm not sure if this has been asked yet or is common knowledge as I am new to volvos. I recently got a s60 and have been getting misfires and such. Changed the coil pack and spark plugs and stop receiving those issues. About a day later I started my car and everything was fine. Went to fill up some gas and as I started the car right after filling it up it was having a pretty rough idle. I gave it some gas and it went away. Next day same thing. car started up fine and no rough idle. After starting it up after work It then again started rough idling. When driving it runs like a dream but at idle its rough. I scanned it and got the P0016 code. So I changed the camshaft position sensor just now and am still getting a rough idle. Do I need to reset the actual engine code for it to relearn itself? If the problem persists after doing so what would you guys possibly think the problem is. Sorry for the paragraph. Cheers
When you get a camshaft or crankshaft sensor code, the problem is almost never the sensor. Have you done anything else on it since you bought it? Oil change and filters? The camshaft code tells you the camshaft position is not where it should be, its possible that the timing belt skipped a tooth on one of the cam gears. I would inspect the timing belt for the condition as these need to be replaced every 100k miles / 10years, whichever comes first. If your timing belt jumps multiple teeth or breaks, it will cause the pistons to hit the valves and it will be a very expensive fix or replacement. I would get this issue taken care of before you continue driving the car.
thanks for the info, I changed the oil and filter right as i bought the car. I'm gonna take it to a mechanic today so they can see if its the timing belt or something else. thanks so much for the reply
