What type of transmisson fluid should I buy?

What type of transmisson fluid should I buy?
I have a 2001 volvo s60 2.4L turbo. In the manual it doesn't state what type of transmission fluid is needed for my car. I was told it is a synthetic fluid. Is it possible to buy this type of fluid at my local parts store or do I have to get it through volvo it self??
