Default Where to send a REM for repair?

My 2006 REM is causing all sorts of electrical problems and the local dealer came up with a CEM 1A5A code "communications with REM control module signal missing." Found internal failure of REM. Replacement $1050"

Does anyone repair these or should I take a shot at finding a used one?

Does the car or module have to be reprogrammed? The dealer says it does but I dont trust them.

Tasca Ford/Volvo is selling new ones on Ebay for $596 and says nothing about programming, cant get thru to their Service Dept today. The same part is listed for a wide range of 2005-2012 models.

Don't know where you can get one repaired but you can't install a used one because it requires programming it to the vehicle

Thats what I want to ask Tasca on Monday. My local dealer wants $180 to program which is a total rip off.
If a used one comes out of a 2006 S-60 it should already be programmed for all the standard features and whatever options were included. Mine is a basic S-60 2.5T without the towing package, special radio stuff, etc.

No that's not going to work. The only place to get it programmed would be the dealer. When we download a software reload we aren't downloading features onto the modules, we are downloading the module onto the network. Do once you program a major module onto one car it can't be installed onto another vehicle.

Maybe Xemodex Inc. Technology Improved can help, but located in Canada.

Default Volvo electronics

Hello, Does anyone out there have any information or software for reading the data held in Volvo ‘electronic units’, REM’s CEM’s ECM’s etc?

I am a recently retired computer /digital design engineer with time to spare and for many years have pondered on what data is stored in Volvo’s electronic units. I have a great deal of experience with EEPROMS and other non-volatile data storage devices.Any information would be greatly appreciated
