Default ‘98 S70 N/A to T5 Swap

Hello everyone. I’m new here and I’m embarking on an endeavor. I have a 98 S70 N/A that is a perfect car with original non faded paint and a manual trans and not rusted at all. Recently where I work we had a customer trade in another ‘98 S70 which is a T5 with an auto but the car is in super rough condition and is super rusted. Thing is though is it runs amazing and has a great drive train. I know the motors will swap over fine and since the rusted out one has everything to be a great donar car if anyone has and tips or experience to share to do the swap.I have a lot of experience when it comes to doing engine swaps and it’s not my only car so I’m not worried about down time, just seeing if it’s worth the hassle. Thanks in advance.

Is it worth it is a pretty tough question as the answer is different for different people. I say if it is something you are interested in doing and is reasonably affordable, then give it a shot.

I say its worth it, I think the S70s looked very nice and I am a fan of the T5 engines from that time, as well.

time to start googling sites like volvospeed - yah there's gonna be those "go buy a T5" posts but those don't work when you want an MT. I think the key question will be whether there's a diff on the T5 automatic ECU vs a T5 manual ECU. (say to deal with the TCU)

The wiring harness is a bit different, and the wiring harness is also not easy to remove. FWIW. these are trivial problems, but it does kind of hurt your feelings that the harness doesn't come out in a reasonable fashion. Better for you to just look at it; look at where the harness is going from the ECU itself. There was a guy who posted here running a turbo on a N/A ECU, so that's possible. Consider that as a first attempt. It's mass air, and so it's not like it can't figure out what to do. I don't know if there are any consequences to long-term longevity (the spark curve is bound to be different). I think it might actually work fine.
