Default 1998 s70 196k salvage title $800 whats your opinion

Hi I am looking into buying a volvo it seems the original s80's were no good so those are out and I have an option to purchase a 1998 s70 with 196k in nice condition it has a salvage title but didnt need much to be up and running again only some minor body work which was done already, it needs nothing and is good to go I am going to look at it in person tomorrow, was wondering if anyone had any input as to whether or not it is a wise decision to buy the car, I was told everything works, new front tires, recent break work done, the parts to restore it were the hood, front left lamp and I think the bumper. was the s70 1998 version as bad as the s80's the guy is only asking for 800 he is not a salvage dealer, he bought and had a mechanic do all the work he just want back what he put into the car.

any info would be great thanks

oh also I dont mind doing the basic repairs myself to save the cost of going to the dealer if I can do it myself I probably will instead of bringing it in. I just figure for $800 how wrong could I go, especially if it drives well. he has been driving it for 4-5000 since he had the repairs done

That sounds like a good deal.
But I think some states are stopping salvage cars from becoming legal. So check local laws first. I don't want to see you buy it then not be able to drive it.

From what I hear Florida if a car gets totaled you cannot put it back on the road again even it is was minor body damage that totaled it.

The 98 S70 was one of the best years for the newer cars.

For $800, even if it broke down you would get that back by parting it to us. So their is really no down side. Go for it!

I was considering a 92 940 with a salvage title from South Carolina until I found out I couldn't get the car titled in Alabama. If it came into the state with a "rebuilt" title it would have to undergo an "extensive inspection" to determine if it could be titled.

UPDATE :so i went to check out the car today, the owner wasnt there when I happened to be passing by so I only checked out the outside and this is what I cam out with:

front left head light and blinker assy. needs to be replaced, back left one also. front left tire has a nail in it, back left tire has a leak. the hood doesnt have the lock assembly mech. so it doesnt close at all the hood is opened with a wire.

the good thing was it didnt seems to be leakign at all.

for 800 its not a bad deal but I really was looking for a trubo version and this was the base model, oh and it was bright red - not my thing on top of that there is all the head aches of all the little things, oh and it has 197k. so i decided to pass.

I did however find another one in white with 160k and seems to be in better shape all it needs (yeah right) is a fuel pump only problem is its an hour and a half away.
