Default 1998 S70 ... many problems.

I have been volunteered to take on an interesting Volvo project... The car is in rough shape, but as with all Swedish cars - it is persevering.

In any event, the immediate problems are the instrument cluster (doesn't show speed, check engine light is on together with the service light and general "alert" light), the DS front mounted blinker assembly is gone and may even need a new wiring assembly as well, and lastly the heat plain doesn't work. I haven't looked into the heat issue at all, therefore, I am unaware if it's the blower motor, heater core, or even the blower motor resistor? In fact, I haven't even gone throught to check the fuses or relays (which will be my first step. In any event, I haven't delved into that at all but it will probably be my main concern being that she has a young daughter and the winters in Minnesota are brutal.

In any event, any ideas whatsoever about what could be the problem would be superior.

Thank you in advance.

Is the ABS light on as well?
If so I will bet the ABS module is bad. You can get it rebuilt for around $100.00 or if you are real handy you might be able to fix it your self. I had thought about it for a long time then tried it myself. I did it on my wifes car and that was almost 1 month ago and all is still fine.

Check out that post about the ABS module. It is a 850 but almost the exact same part # module. It is the same type as the 98.

Does the blower motor work?
You say there is no heat If the blower motor works make sure the heater core is connected. If the blower doesn't work check the motor and resistor.

For the blinker light try to find a used one.
