Default fluid loss

while doing some work on my 1998 s70 glt, i took the drive axle off the car and in the process lost somefluid.i'm thinking its transmission fluid, but i'm not sure. checked the dipstick and its still at a normal level, but i lost almost 2 quarts of fluid.... so what type of fluid is it and how would i go about refilling it? thanks!!

It is ATF that you lost.
It might take the car running for a few to see a difference on the dipstick.

Wondering about this too. Do you always lose fluid when changing the CV shafts?

Depends on how you do them.
If on a lift and the car is level usually no.
But if it is on jackstands or a single jack on an angle at all yes.
