Smile 1998 S70 Springs / Coil question.

Good morning everyone.

What a useful forum this turned out to be. I'm hoping someone can answer this question.

My base sedan has the original coils and suspension on it from the factory. 1998.

I bought the full comprehensive suspension kit from FCP (500+ bucks)

none of the kits include springs so I have to buy a set ...

I do not want to compromise original ride height. I researched threads but the information is not clear.

I have seen scan-tech, kilen and lesjofors springs.

Which brand would be the best investment?

Also, will 850/960 springs fit a S70?

Last ditch effort would be a pro-kit with lowering the car no more than an inch.

Any help appreciated. Thanks!

I would buy a set from this classified section but no ones selling...

Why do you think you need to replace the springs? How many miles do you have on the car?

Rear of car is lower than front? Sounds like someone did something to the front suspension that they shouldn't have? Rear suspension rarely wears out except for shocks and maybe upper mounts but that usually happens at 200k.

I'd agree with the car nut. These cars usually carry a good solid profile unless you really have the trunk loaded down.

If you're not trying to get some kind of special ride, like lower, just do the struts and see how things level out for you. Springs usually go 300,000 unless you are overloading the car.

Thank you for the notes and advice - nothing outrageous was done to the car before I got it as far as I know but there is sag and unevenness to the vehicle by a couple inches... standard suspension components are being replaced. I can't account for the previous heavy loads on the car since I am the second owner. It was suggested since I am basically replacing the whole suspension, I should throw the springs in too.... I will reply with results when everything is in.

On a side note how hard is it to replace a front passenger side interior door handle? I can open the door from the outside but the passenger can't open it from the inside. It is unlocked...

Sounds like somebody in the business of selling car parts suggested that you replace the springs lol. The springs typically dont go bad under normal circumstances. If you are changing the struts yourself, use extreme caution when removing the springs, they can kill you.

Passenger door handle not opening from the inside: check the cable going from the handle to the door actuator. You are going to have to pull the door panel off the door. Might even be a bad lock actuator.

I had my passenger door inside stop working. The cable was slipping up in the assembley. I saw a post on MVS and was able to drill a hole in the plastic and hook a zip tie to keep it in place. It has worked fine for over a year now.
