2000 S70- high and low Headlights not working after alternator replacement
Both High and Low beam Headlights no longer operate after replacing the stock alternator on my 2000 S70 automatic.
The alternator was replaced after it failed to charge the battery shortly after starting. All cables are hooked up, and the serpentine belt is on track.
Let me start from the begininning, as I go through how all the safety features in this car seem to have worked in proper order as my battery charge faded into a dark abyss:
I got on the highway after 15 minutes of driving. 10 minutes on the highway, I pulled over on a rest stop to change and use a bathroom. I started my car, got on to the ramp, and accelerated to approach 70mph. At around 40 or 50mph I heard a loud click, and my headlight "light" activated on my dash, letting me know that my headlights malfunctioned, and would not turn on. I continued to drive my car for 30 miles at variable speeds between 25-55mph, until I hit the next highway.
It was as I entered the on ramp on the 2nd highway, that my radio cut-out, and lights began to dim. When I got off the highway, and came to a stop, the car would no longer accelerate in the same fashion. Basically, even if I put pedal-to-the-metal it would only gradually accelerate in a fixed manner (crawling along at first).
I replaced the alternator (remember to back up your memory) and recharged the battery which has fixed all issues save one.
THE ISSUE:
My Low-beam headlight light remains on. It is correct. The lowbeams do not come on.
I switch my high-beams on, the blue light displays, but neither work. All my fuses (save the AC fuse) look brand new and are in working order. The whole thing could use a good cleaning, but all the connections are free of corrosion/oil/coloration that would lead me to worry.
Do I test every wire in the system for a failure? Is there some safety feature I'm missing that I just need to over-ride/reset? Help!
