Default 2000 Volvo S70 GLT SE Turbo - starting problems

I have been having the same problem for 6 months now.

The engine won't turn over sometimes. Sometimes it will turn over, but it will die soon after. Before it would be fine after the third try, but a few days ago, it just wouldn't turn on. I let it sit for 20 minutes or so and the engine finally turns over. I was told that it was a battery issue so I replaced the battery, but it has continued to be a problem.

Other issues that my car is having which may or may not be contributing to this issue is that the cigarette lighter socket has fallen through the console, the gas tank cap doesn't seem to be closed all the way when I go to put in more gas and MOST IMPORTANTLY, the accordion part of this tube in the following picture came apart. Also sometimes the gas temp gauge starts at half way instead of working itself up to half after I start the car. (it's been very hot out)

Please let me know if you have any thoughts on the matter!

Okay well idk what to tell you about the gas cap thing. That accordion you speak of is just a flexible portion of what is basically just a cooling duct for your ECU. if you don't want to replace it just simply epoxy or tape it, its not that critical. Now the only thing that I can think of for your starting issue is that you have a short or a bad ground in your charging circuit. Your alternator and starter are both wired into the same circuit, if you get a flashlight and look around under your intake manifold at the wires going to your alternator as well as your starter look for torn insulation, burned wires or bad connections to the starter. Also if you have a voltmeter handy that will make the troubleshooting process a bit easier.

Hi Nicoletta, welcome to the forum.

Just a help tip, it is best to list all of your problems on separate threads because as you list more issues, people may miss them all together.

Lets start to with your starting issue. My guess is that you have bad, dirty connections at your battery positive cable.

You will need to pull the center console to get that fixed. You may need a new socket or something may have just come loose.

Get a new one. They are about $15 at after market places and maybe $25 at the dealer.

This is likely a temp sensor problem. You may want to look real close at the connector before you replace it.

thanks for your help everyone!

turns out, after bringing it to two mechanics and finally to the dealership, it is in fact the antenna ring.
