Well, it got the dying DIM (dash) symptoms unfortunately. Typically, it's a few electronic parts inside that go wrong. Owners usually sent the whole dash (the part with the gauges) to a specialized repair shop (have a look un Ebay) for around $250. Remember not to use the ignition key (even better, disconnect the "-" battery cable) while the DIM is disconnected, otherwise you will get a airbag warning message that can only be cleared at the Volvo dealer for around $100.

One alternative, is to find a micro-electronics repair shop in your area. They shouldn't be charging too much and can definitely carry the repair.

The attached photo shows the components with the issue, inside the DIM (it's easy to remove the cover to reach these components, just a couple of phillips screws). On my car, the problem was the parts inside the red circles (replace them). Other say it's the chip marked with green - just re-flow the soldering and it will work fine (takes 5 minutes to do it with a re-flowing machine).

One last option is to buy a used DIM off Ebay (around $100) that matches the miles on your car (it will display the miles from the donor car), and that has all the model numbers on the side matching the ones from the DIM in your car (there are about 5 numbers, all must match).

Indeed, at the beginning is on and off, it usually depends on the temperature inside the cabin.

Very old thread, but biting my fingers, someone could help me out.
I have a V70, 2001. Been a great car. The lights in the dash don't work, except only ONE, the Engine Check light. And the power windows do not respond as well.

Any help? Otherwise the car starts just fine. But dangerous to drive without the DIM warnings, and all.

Regards
