With the '56' in the VIN, I'm thinking this might be an S70 GLT which is a low pressure turbo. If that is the case I would not pay $5,000 for one with 171,000 miles on it.

Ok, this can be solved easily, if anyone had bothered to read the s70R link that was posted on the first page:

"The exclusive interior has been designed to match the sporting intentions of the new S70/V70R. The panels and tunnel console are now trimmed in patterned aluminium, while birch or black walnut is optional. The upholstery is an exclusive combination of leather and Alcantara® and comes in light beige or dark grey. The leather-trimmed steering wheel also has an Alcantara® inlay."

and

"New to the R-models are blue instruments"

Does it have all that?

I didn't even notice that link to be honest. But I went back and read and noticed that Green was not one of the colors offered on the 98 S/V70R. The picture sure looks like it's a green car to me.

No such thing as an S70R in North America. Volvo did make an S70R for domestic (Sweden), European, and Asian sale. I remember some guy from Beirut on Swedespeed that had one. The car in your link is a modded S70 not 'stock R'. For the 98 model year it wouldn't have mattered anyway as the T5 and the V70R had the same engine with the same HP output (236). The only difference was AWD on the V and the exterior and interior trim. I don't even think the 'real' 98 S70R was AWD.

Even if it isnt a true R its still a beatiful car. And for 5k with 171k not a bad deal at all. Have the engine checked and i say if it turns out, buy it. It may not be real but it looks great.

You sound like the seller of that car! Just kidding..
But you are correct, it is a nice looking car either way. I'd say since the selleris advertising it an R model and it's not. I'll give you $3000 cash for it.
