99 S70 ETS troubleshooting
I think I've got a bad ETS, but I want to make sure.
My issues started in the summer after I got back from a trip to the mountains. I was driving in my hometown when the throttle just died. I could have the pedal pressed to the floor and it wouldn't accelerate. I'd cut the ignition, cut it back on, and it'd be just fine. This happened once a week. I thought it was a glitch or an electronic misfire, seeing as the ETS was already replaced by the previous owner.
Until yesterday (9-26). I was on my way to the gym when the accelerator died again. I cut the ignition off/on and carried on as usual. The brakes were suddenly stiff. I had to slam on the brakes just to begin stopping. I stopped in a parking lot just to check things out. The pedal made this clicking noise (it sounded like it was coming from inside the radio) every time I pressed it. I got it back to campus and parked it.
Check Engine and ETS light was on. The codes indicated the ETS and a cylinder misfire, something I'd known about but it hadn't given me much trouble.
This morning, I cut the ignition and it accelerated without me putting my foot on the pedal. Then it died after 2 seconds of sputtered idling.
I've been doing some research and found ETS that were upwards of $600, but some were in the $130s on Ebay. I'm a college student and not trying to spend that much money--because I don't have any.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

clicking noise - probably the shift lock solenoid - move the brake pedal and feel the click in the shifter.
ETS, missfire - use this info from xemodex to help with your diagnosis, also the group of 4 smaller red wires attached to the positive battery terminal feeds power to the main fusebox - and the connection melts in the fusebox due to a poor connection - undo the nut and pull the wire up in the fusebox - it's probably melted there -
